Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS (PHANGS)

The PHANGS program is building the first dataset to enable the multi-phase, multi-scale study of star formation across nearby spiral galaxies.  The foundation of PHANGS has been built with large surveys with Hubble, JWST, ALMA and VLT/MUSE.

Hubble and JWST imaging from 0.2 to 21 microns for 19 galaxies with ALMA CO(2-1) mapping and VLT/MUSE optical IFU spectroscopy has been obtained through three programs:

• HST Treasury (2019-21 PI: JC Lee)

• JWST Treasury (2022-24 PI: JC Lee) 

• HST H-alpha Treasury (2023-24 PI: R Chandar)

Hubble and JWST imaging for an additional 55 galaxies with PHANGS ALMA CO observations are being obtained through the following programs:

• HST Treasury (2019-21 PI: JC Lee)

• HST Treasury (2023- PI: D Thilker)

• JWST Treasury (2023- PI: A Leroy)

• HST H-alpha (2024- PI: F Belfiore)

PHANGS Datasets and Multiscale Stellar Associations
