The Impact of MAST

We're proud to share that our paper on MAST's impact has been accepted by PASP! Our conclusion? It only takes a few years for the publishing rate of archival papers to exceed the output of the original observing teams. By storing data for the long-haul, we enable archival science that far exceeds the scope of initial proposals; we believe this is true for any archive, not just MAST or other astronomy archives. Keep reading to see a subset of our figures and get a link to the paper!

TESS Special Observation of Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS

TESS has observed the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS in a series of special observations named "Sector 1751". These new data products include full frame images, TESSCut data cubes, and more now available at MAST.
Introducing a New IUE Search Form

A new search form for the International Ultraviolet Explorer is now available! Explore data dating back to the 70s in our aesthetically pleasing and fast search tool.
Updated HLSPs for December

New in December: images and maps of Uranus from the Outer Planets Legacy Survey, along with updates to the TESS-based TICA, TESS-SPOC, and QLP HLSPs.
New and Updated HLSPs for November

Two new HLSPs were released; M87-HST-UV is the deepest ultraviolet image of M87 while TESS-YSO offers TESS light curves for young stellar objects. We also had an update to an outer planet imaging program and updates to our TESS-based HLSPs.
New Version of the Hubble Spectroscopic Legacy Archive (HSLA)

Announcing the (re-)release of the Hubble Spectroscopic Legacy Archive! This latest version provides coadded COS and STIS spectra, includes classifications for each target, and supercedes the previous version of HSLA.
Updated HLSPs for October

BOSZ 2024 stellar models updated to fix two issues; users are encouraged to re-download models to get these fixes. Updates were also made to the TESS-based TICA and QLP products.
SDSS Legacy Spectra Data Now Available at MAST

The SDSS Legacy Archive at MAST (SLAM) now includes the SDSS Legacy Spectra Survey, the SDSS Supernova Survey, and the SDSS Extension for Galactic Understanding and Evolution (SEGUE). This dataset provides optical-wavelength 1-D spectra for over 1.8 million stars, galaxies, and quasars.
New Feature: JWST Image Previews

Buckle up! MAST has four new HLSPs this month!
New & Updated HLSPs for August

High-Level Science Products at MAST added a new collection of spectroscopic observations from the Apache Point Observatory including targets from the legacy Mount Wilson survey. Updates were also made to the usual TESS-based collections, as well as new Neptune observations in the OPAL collection.

🧠 💪 This month, the SMARTS data release 2 was published, adding a million simulated light curves of the Kepler bonus background data. Mega-MUSCLES was also updated with SEDs for an additional 12 M dwarf stars. We also made updates to our usual group of TESS-based HLSPs.

A change to the TESS processing pipeline resulted in a loss of photometric precision and transit search sensitivity. Corrected data are now available in MAST.
SDSS Legacy Imaging Data Now Available at MAST

The SDSS Legacy Archive at MAST (SLAM) now includes images and photometry from the SDSS Legacy Imaging Survey. This dataset provides wide-field images and ugriz photometry for 14,055 square degrees of the sky.
