Planned and Archived
Exposures Catalog

The Planned and Archived Exposures Catalog (PAEC) is an ASCII listing compiled from the Hubble Space Telescope Data Archive and Proposal databases. This listing provides a summary of all approved HST observations, including already completed observations and those which are planned to be executed as part of the current cycle or which are reserved for execution by Guaranteed Time Observer (GTO) programs for the upcoming cycles. You can use this listing to aid you in the preparation of your HST Proposals, either to search for already approved observations which may duplicate those you are considering proposing or to search for archival data to support your HST proposal.

This version of the PAEC was produced on 01 Dec 2023 .

The PAEC is divided into separate files for:

Cycles 7 through present

Cycles 4 through 6

Cycles 0 through 3

The PAEC includes the following information:

  • targname - Name of the target, truncated to 16 characters.
  • ra, dec - RA and Dec of target (J2000).
  • config - Instrument configuration.
  • mode - Instrument operating mode.
  • aper - Apertures used. Multiple apertures are delimited by semicolons.
  • spec - Spectral elements used. Multiple elements are delimited by semicolons.
  • wave - "Central" wavelength of the observation, angstroms.
  • time - Length of exposure (in seconds).
  • prop - Proposal ID.
  • cy - The proposal cycle for the observation
  • dataset - Contains the dataset name for completed observations, or PLANNED if the observation has not yet executed.
  • release - Date on which observation becomes public, or conflict type (GTO-RES indicates GTO-reserved observations; --- indicates normal observations from Cycle 0-6.) (GTO-RES indicates GTO-reserved observations; --- indicates normal observations from Cycle 0-6.)

The PAEC provides summary information about each planned or completed HST exposure. One can see much more information about each exposure and preview and retrieve any completed, public exposures using the Duplication Checking Web Form or the Duplication Check Screen in StarView. StarView can be run by installing it on your Solaris or Digital Unix workstation. See the StarView Page for more information.
