HIPPIES Data Release 1

Hubble Infrared Pure Parallel Imaging Extragalactic Survey (HIPPIES) utilizes long-duration pure parallel visits (~> 3 orbits) of HST at high Galactic latitude (|b|>20o) to take deep, multi-band images in WFC3 (since Cycle 17) and in ACS (starting Cycle 18). It is unique in its large number of descrete fields along random sightlines, and thus is complementary to other surveys over contiguous fields but along limited sightlines.

In Cycle 17, there were two imaging pure parallel programs. HIPPIES was observing under PID 11702 (PI Hao-Jing Yan), while the other one managed by a different team was observing under PID 11700. As these two programs had similar instrument setups (both were using WFC3; see below) and were non-proprietary, HIPPIES has incorporated the data from both. HIPPIES has been renewed in Cycle 18 under PID 12286 (with a selection of filters slightly different from that in Cycle 17), and has extended to use the ACS instrument as well. HIPPIES aims to relase its best-effort, high-level image products derived from all these three programs (PIDs 11702, 12286; and 11700) roughly one year after each set (i.e., field) of observations were finished, using the best HST reference files available at the time of data reduction.

HIPPIES DR1 Images

HIPPIES DR1 only involves the data taken in Cycle 17 by programs 11702 and 11700. These two programs used both the infrared (IR) and the UV-optical (UVIS) channels of WFC3. The IR images were taken in the same three bands in both programs, namely, F098M, F125W and F160W. Program 11702 used F600LP, while program 11700 used F606W. A few fields were observed by both programs, and thus have UVIS images in both F600LP and F606W. See the readme for a short summary of the key points regarding the DR1 data.
