Figure 1 from McQuinn et al. (2015).
IntroductionSTARBIRDS combines new and archival observations for 20 nearby, starburst and post-starburst dwarf galaxies from GALEX, Hubble, and Spitzer. The images are registered to a common world coordinate system, flux calibrated, and background-subtracted. A set of GALEX and Spitzer images are made available cropped to match the Hubble field-of-view, while another set of Hubble images are convolved with a 5-arcsecond point spread function and rebinned to the GALEX and Spitzer resolutions. Data ProductsEach file has the following naming convention:
hlsp_starbirds_mission_instrument_target_filter_version_ext
Mission is either "galex", "hst", or "spitzer".
Instrument is either "imaging", "acs-wfc", "wfpc2", or "mips",
and in the case of the resampled HST images, includes the pixel
scale (1.5arcsec or 1.5as).
The fifth field in the filenames includes
the galaxy name and the field of view ("hstfov" for GALEX and Spitzer,
"4d25" for the additional set of GALEX images).
The sixth field corresponds to the filter ("fuv", "nuv", "f555w", "f606w", "f814w", "24um", "70um",
"160um").
The eighth field specifies the content or type of
file. For GALEX, this is either the 'rrhr' files (high resolution
relative response) or 'intbgsub' (background subtracted intensity
maps) in units of counts/s. The rrhr files are exposure times per
pixel on the same pixel scale as the intbgsub files. The intbgsub
files are the counts map divided by the rrhr map. For HST, this is 'drz' (drizzled images)
that are the combined mosiac of any overlapping fields in the same
filter. For Spitzer, this is either 'wt' (weight) or 'img'
(image). The wt files show the spatial coverage of each mosaic; the
img files are the calibrated images in units of MJy/sr.
We also provide a DSS JPEG image with the HST field of view overlaid
for reference and JPEG files for all files for quick display purposes.
Data AccessThe table below includes sortable columns, click on the header to sort, click again to sort in the reverse order. Links in the "Target" column will take you to a given galaxy's HLSP page, that includes access to all the available images. You can download a tar file for each galaxy containing all the images using the link in the first column.
