Users assign an alias to each source contained in a NIRSpec MSA planning tool source catalog. That source alias in turn gets stored in the alias field of the PPSDB nirspec_sources table, which then gets copied to the MSA meta data file produced by DMS level-1 processing. The calibration pipeline copies the alias value from the meta data file into the SRCALIAS keyword during level-2b processing.
