LMC color images

These are color composite images produced by Zolt Levay for our photo release on 9 March 2000, unless otherwise noted. Note that the images here differ slightly from the photo release: the orientations are roughly north=up and east=left, and they are brightened a bit to enhance the extended halo features.

SMP 4
red=nothing, green=Ha, blue=OIII, gray=clear
No NII emission. Clear image shows central star.
SMP 10
red=NII, green=Ha, blue=OIII, gray=clear
Something in every image.
SMP 16
red=NII, green=Ha, blue=OIII
Tough to disentangle Ha and NII.
SMP 27
red=nothing, green=Ha, blue=OIII, gray=clear
No NII emission. Clear image shows central star.
SMP 30
red=NII, green=Ha, blue=OIII
SMP 30
red=H-alpha, green=OIII, "blue"=H-alpha (actually red)
This is Max's proof-of-concept version, created prior to the photo release. This is a more "artistic" version with smoothing and other PhotoShop tweaking, and the scale is not the same as the other images (see the SMP 30 image above for relative scale).
SMP 93
We couldn't disentangle the H-alpha and NII emission, so this is just a combination of the clear and [OIII] emission.
