Deear colleagues:
It is our great pleasure that the international colloquium on X-ray and UV
spectroscopy of astrophysical and laboratory plasmas will be held on May 30
- June 2 1995, in Nagoya, Japan. This is the eleventh meeting with the same
title. A series of the meetings have been held every three years, and it
was decided in the previous meeting in Berkeley that the eleventh meeting
was going to be held in Japan for the first time.
Recent progress in astrophysical observations has given strong impacts on
plasma physics in laboratories and theoretical studies of atomic processes.
X-ray spectra of solar flares and active regions by Yohkoh, and of stellar
coronae, supernova remnants, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies by Asca
have been observed with high spectral resolutions, as well as those taken
by EUVE in extreme ultraviolet wavelengths. The outputs from these
scientific satellites will play important roles in the progress of future
astrophysics and fusion plasma physics. Based on these close interactions
of scientific targets among these fields, this meeting is aimed for
discussing the common subject of UV and X-ray spectroscopy of plasmas
related to astrophysics, plasma physics, and atomic physics.
The meeting is supported by the sponsorship of the Japan Society for the
Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Astronomical Society of Japan (ASJ),
and will be co-sponsored by the Nagoya University, the Nagoya City, and the
Aichi Prefecture.
The proceeding will be published by a scientific publisher. Very limited
travel funds will be available for participants from abroard. Those who
contribute to the meeting and absolutely need the support can apply for
them and write to the SOC/LOC chairmen (K.Yamashita or T.Watanabe).
Enclosed are the forms for preliminary registration and should be returned
to the LOC chairman (T.Watanabe) before the end of October 1994.
As this annoncement is only sent to the participants of the previous
meetings, the organizers appreciate it very much, if the attention of
colleagues is paid, who are interested in the meeting. Any inquiries
concerning the conference will be addressed to the organizers.
With best wishes.
