To: Kevin Hartnett and Hun Tann (GSFC) From: Brett Stroozas and Dennis Biroscak (UCB/CEA) Re: PACOR Backup and FOT Access to UCB/CEA Equipment (BAS/EUVE/0060/95) CC: Len Losik, Anna Abedini (UCB/CEA) Dear Kevin, This memo is in response to recent changes made by FOT personnel to the UCB/CEA minESOC system as part of the PACOR backup efforts. We at CEA understand that the changes made to the network will be used to provide CEA with EUVE telemetry as a backup to Pacor systems. We also understand your interest in gaining two-way access to Pacor through our equipment and are willing to help out whenever possible. However, recent changes to the DDCS network were made without the proper involvement of CEA personnel and the supporting ECO documentation. Due to the nature of the various issues involved with this equipment -- use in operations, maintenance, security, etc. -- I'm sure that you can understand our concern. Since we do, however, wish to support the FOT in its many innovative activities, UCB/CEA would like the following measures to be implemented: o The FOT will work with the relevant CEA personnel to ensure that the recent changes are discussed fully and the appropriate ECO paperwork be filed immediately. o The FOT will ensure that no further changes will be made to CEA equipment without the prior involvement and approval of CEA personnel and without filing the proper ECO documentation. Again, I wish to reiterate that we here at UCB/CEA are, and will continue to be, very supportive of FOT innovation activities, and we wish to assist wherever practicable. However, as you are well aware, we must require that CEA personnel be involved in all changes to CEA equipment, and that the appropriate documentation be filed accordingly. I believe that by working as a team we will both be more effective and productive, and will share a common satisfaction in our various efforts in support of the EUVE mission. As always, we appreciate and thank you for your excellent operations support and we look forward to continue working closely together in the future. Sincerely, Brett Stroozas, EUVE UCB/CEA Integrated/Intelligent Science Operations (ISO) Manager Dennis Biroscak, ISO Technical Coordinator
