Preface to the Second Edition
The Second Edition of the Guide is designed to replace the First Edition
(October, 1973) and its revision (March 1, 1974). In addition, more
information is included to cover areas of operation and data reduction not
yet well understood at the time of the earlier publications.
Specifically, the additions include discussions of the absolute pointing
capability and observations of close binary systems; of a
recently-implemented backup guidance unit, which extends the guidance
limit by one magnitude; and of a high time-resolution mode which can be
used to increase the signal to noise attainable with tubes V1 and V2 (near
UV). Amplified discussions are included on the partial backgrounds, stray
light corrections, use of the command generation program; and general
policies of the Princeton Guest Investigator Program.
