Data Release Notes

A set of Data Release Notes is provided with each release of data, including each reprocessing. The Notes tabulate the phenomena identified by the Science Office in each data set and describe the overall quality of that set. A description of the different types of phenomena is provided in the Data Characteristics Handbook . The Data Release Notes are accompanied by a set of Supplementary data files that contain the tables too unwieldy to provide in document form, and sets of ancillary data for users to exploit in their own data analysis.

Data Release Notes 9 and later no longer include a general description of the Kepler data analysis pipeline. The pipeline is now described in the Data Processing Handbook.

Starting with Data Release 4 (original quarter 3 processing), information on which release notes apply to a given observation was added to the light curve file FITS header. Keywords: DATA_REL, an integer giving the number of the pertinent release notes, and QUARTER, an integer listing the quarter number, provide the information. Note that when earlier data are reprocessed, new release notes describing only the reprocessed data are produced.

See the seasons table page to find the predicted start and end dates for each quarter.

Superceded Release Notes

Although the following Notes have been superceded by the ones listed above, they would still apply to data sets downloaded before the later reprocessed data was archived.
