Web site maintenance notes

The master files are edited and stored in /data/emilia3/www/. Along with the FITS data, they can be copied over to the MAST host (must have an account on stdatu.stsci.edu) as follows:

Here are the initial setup instructions from Tim Kimball:
The /var/ftp/ area is in the anonymous FTP area, so it's not a good
place for web content. The pages will be served from
/archive/data1/docs/hst/mcpn.

This will make the URL
http://archive.stsci.edu/hst/mcpn/,
which is consistent with the other HST prepared datasets.

Rethinking my previous message bit: If the data is just a couple of
gigabytes, you could just put it into /var/ftp/pub/mcpn. There's about
8GB of space there right now. If it's more than a couple of GBs we
might use the /var/ftp/pub/.data3 area instead, and create links from
pub/mcpn into this area. When we get our 1TB RAID installed, there
won't be a need for links, and we'll just flatten the directory
structure out.

The data can be linked in the web pages as
http://archive.stsci.edu/pub/mcpn/whatever, or
ftp://archive.stsci.edu/pub/mcpn/whatever.

Access and error logs for the web server are in
/archive/data1/apache/logs for today's logs, and
/archive/data2/apache/logs/ for previous day's logs.
The anonymous FTP log is in /var/adm/xferlog.

Randy Thompson will be able to help you in getting started on the pages
(he knows more about the structures, how to do the menus, etc. than I
do). His email address is rthomp@stsci.edu.
