HST Archive Data Use Policy

Publication of HST Archival Research Results

All publications based on these data should carry the following footnote:

"Based on observations made with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, obtained from the data archive at the Space Telescope Science Institute. STScI is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. under NASA contract NAS 5-26555."

If the archival research was supported by a grant from STScI, the publication should also carry the following acknowledgment at the end of the text:

"Support for this work was provided by NASA through grant number ________ from the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by AURA, Inc., under NASA contract NAS 5-26555."

All refereed publications based on data obtained from the Hubble Legacy Archive (HLA) must carry the following footnote:

Based on observations made with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, and obtained from the Hubble Legacy Archive, which is a collaboration between the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI/NASA), the Space Telescope European Coordinating Facility (ST-ECF/ESA) and the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC/NRC/CSA).

One copy of each paper resulting from data obtained from the HLA should be sent to the STScI.
