HLSP Search Output Columns

MAST has begun to assemble a set of contributed highly processed datasets or High-Level Science Products (HLSP) from missions supported by MAST. These are datasets consisting of atlases, images, and/or the data themselves which have been placed on the web either as final data products or as appendices referenced in recent published papers. These data are in the public domain and/or will soon be published.

RA (J2000)
Object Right Ascension (J2000)
The right ascension, in the J2000 equinox. For WFPC2 Association data, the coordinates from the HST Science log were used. For other missions, the coordinates specified by the hlsp developer were used.

Dec (J2000)
Object Declination (J2000)
The declination, in the J2000 equinox For WFPC2 Association data, the coordinates from the HST Science log were used. For other missions, the coordinates specified by the hlsp developer were used.

Angular Separation
The angular separation in arcminutes between the observation and the search center (the coordinates you're searching on). This is calculated during the search, and the search results are sorted in order of increasing angular separation. It has the nice effect of sending parallels to the bottom of the list. (If you're interested in the parallels, you can sort the list in descending order of angular separation.)

It also means that you can give a search radius like, say, 2 .. 8 to find all observations between 2 and 8 arcminutes from some position. This could be used, for example, to exclude observations of the nucleus of a galaxy, or the central star in a planetary nebula.

Filename
HLSP file name
The filename or association name for the product. For WFPC2 association data, the association name is displayed. For all other products, the entire filename is displayed.

A WFPC2 association is a logical group of exposures. The deepest of such exposures is called the leader of the association. NOTE: The association identifier (asn_id) is a slightly modified version of the leaders dataset name. An exposure is assigned to leader if they belong to the same observing program, if they were observed with the same filter, their sky projected distance is not greater than 10 arcsec (100 WF4 pixels), and their postion angle doesn't differ by more than 0.03 degrees .

Clicking on a WFPC2 association name will run the WFPC2 association search routine for that assocation. You may then download the desired files from that result.

For other HLSP, left click to display the file as defined by your browser. Right click to bring up option for downloading the data onto your machine. All non WFPC2 association data are available via anonymous ftp. FTP to archive.stsci.edu then cd to /pub/hlsp/
Each set of products is in the directory that is the same as that listed as the project.

Project
The HLSP project ID. This is a "shorthand" identfier for the "project" that created the HLSP. Examples include: GOODS, maoz, IUEPMS, HDF, HDS

The project name is a link to an associated webpage for more information.

Instrument
The instrument used to acquire the data used to create this HLSP, e.g. WFPC2, FOC, IUE.

Product Type
The type of product e.g.: plot, spectra, catalog, image, README

File format type
Type of file format. e.g. png = png image format, fits, txt = ASCII text format, ps = postscript, xls = Excel spreadsheet, jpeg = jpeg image format, gif = gif image format.

Bibcode
Journal reference is stored as a "bibcode", a format used by the ADS journal service where the format is year, journal, volumne, page, first initial of the first author

Examples: 2000ApJS..129..399V, 1996ApJS..107..215M

The bibcode is a link to the ADS Abstract Service page for that paper.

Object
Object as assigned by the creator of the HLSP except in the case of WFPC2 associations. Objects for WFPC2 Associations are those designated by the original observer.

Title
Title of the Project/Paper creating the HLSP. e.g. GOODS: The Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey

Primary Investigator
Primary investigator of the project. e.g. Mauro Giavalisco, Dan Maoz

Webpage
Web page for the project (uses MAST HLSP page if no other exists).
