StarView 4.0 features: * A screen for extracting scans from the complete Digitized Sky Survey CD-ROMS (disks 1-102). * A new version of SAOimage that displays world coordinates in the preview images. * Output from a screen may be written to a file to be used as cross-correlation input in another screen. Users of Distributed StarView will notice that the package is a little smaller now. That's because StarView now fetches the screen definitions and help files from STScI via http. This will help us keep the screen files updated and corrected here, without requiring you to install them at your site. You may download the software via FTP from stdatu.stsci.edu (username: starftp, password: your email address), or through the HST Archive's World Wide Web Server (http://stdatu.stsci.edu/dist_starview.html; be sure to set the "load to local disk" option on your browser before downloading.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- WWW Access to the Digitized Sky Survey ---------------------------------------- In addition to accessing the Digitized Sky Survey CD-ROMs through StarView (see above), you can now access them through the World Wide Web. Point your browser to http://stdatu.stsci.edu/dss/dss_form.html You can enter either an RA & Dec, or you can use this form's target name resolver to get the RA/Dec for you, either from SIMBAD or NED. Scans of up to 60 x 60 arcminutes may be retrieved, with a default of 15 x 15. (This default scan yields a FITS file of about a little over 500 kilobytes.) Image formats available are: FITS (uncompressed, gzip compressed, or Unix compressed), FITS with a generic mime type (to make your browser save the file to disk instead of trying to display it), and GIF. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any questions or comments about StarView or the HST Archive, contact the Archive Hotseat: Internet: archive@stsci.edu SPAN: STSCIC::ARCHIVE or 6559::ARCHIVE Phone: (410) 338-4547.
